Consistency: Major Key to Success

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

As some of you may already know, taking care of myself physically has been an important part of my routine for several years now. Each week, my goal is to hit the gym 5 mornings for a 75-minute workout. The benefits have been incredible not only for my physical health but also for my self-esteem, motivation, and energy levels, not to mention my overall mindset.

On one of those mornings last week, I shared the following message on Twitter:

Thinking back on the last few years of my wellness routine, I realize how consistency has really been a key factor, if not THE key factor of my progress. It’s not only about waking up early and getting to the gym – that’s half of the equation. I also need to consistently show up DURING my workouts, bringing the energy and pushing my body a little past its comfort zone, every morning. I don’t always feel like pushing myself at 5:30 am, but what helps me get past this hurdle is thinking about the possible repercussions of breaking my consistency streak. I don’t want to take a step back. I don’t want to have that feeling of having missed a workout. I don’t want my body to feel physically unsatisfied because I didn’t push myself enough. I don’t want to start the work day off at a lower energy level. The other thing that motivates me is knowing how easy it can be to develop the bad habit of not being consistent, and the work that it takes to regain that level of commitment.

This way of thinking about consistency applies to so many things in our lives: maintaining relationships, learning, adding value to others, or even growing and improving. I don’t only want to show up, but I want to over-deliver every time.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that you reach your goals in the coming week. Be consistent at all levels!
